I think the answer is pretty clear.  If we were not "dependent" in the 
Arabs view on their oil and if that were true from our perspective as 
well AND, we stopped buying petroleum from them then they would have to 
be "NICE" to get our business, wouldn't they?  And since we wouldn't 
have any REAL reasons for being in the middle east they wouldn't have to 
HATE us so much.  But we have already made billionaires of people who 
find it in their hearts to fund terrorist organizastion (that do hate 
us) so to just erase the effects of the huge amounts of money we have 
sent to them is almost impossible.

Simple solution.  Use Linux not to find more oil in Saudi Arabia (the 
largest linux cluster is being used for that purpose) but use it to do 
the research on alternate enative clean energies and how to make cars 
that people fee safe in but don't look like trucks!
