sourceforge.net is a good place to look for open source projects. you
should also checout zope for some of these projects, its super easy to
work with, and its designed to be very scalable and has its own clustering
solution and can use either its internal object database or other external
datasources and stores the whole contents of the site (web pages, images,
etc...) are stored in one file, which makes it easy to backup.

Believe me, I wish we'd use Zope at my work. They're trying to get a java
based cms working, but why kill yourself with that when zope runs faster
than java and doesn't require a sql database, and has hundreds of free,
open source python or c based plugins.

Since it supports Soap you can also share data with both java and .net
apps, from my experience its very, very easy to use compared to php or
perl. You don't have to do any programming to install plugins, and there's
a large enough pool of mature plugins so it would be a rare case where
you'd have to have anything programmed from scratch.
