Fairly painless and inexpensive. Costs all of $10. Then you have to 
publish. You don't have to find a newspaper right away. I strongly urge 
you to wait for the ads that will come in the mail from the small local 
newspapers. They watch the business name filings and send out flyers. 
They are much cheaper than the bigees and do the job perfectly legally. 
If you're business is based in L.A. county you also need a business 
license. This is a tax thing. If you expect no profit for a year or two 
you won't be charged any tax. The banks want to see the stamped business 
name filing paper to allow you to open a commercial checking account.
