'printcap name = cups' is probably in your smb.conf.

I'm guessing here because I'm not sure what you mean by "Windows
drivers" exactly, but if they're drivers from the printer vendor, that
this is probably your problem. Once the printer is configured under
CUPS, it's actually responsible for talking to it (and formatting the
pages). So unless you set up a RAW printer in CUPS and just use it as
a passthrough, what you should do is to install the CUPS Samba printer
driver on your Windows boxes.
You can use `cupsaddsmb` to add the drivers to your Samba server so
that when your Windows clients connect to the printer, the drivers are
automatically downloaded and installed.
