[Lula] Microphone not working in Ubuntu

the capture is maxed out, mic is not controlable, but capture is tied to
mic.

In gnome-volume-control nothing is set to mute
In gnome-alsamixer capture is maxed, rec is checked and the mic is
checked, not line in...

So weird that something so simple as a mic input can be so much trouble.
So far I ahve lost several hours to this, and it only took me 30 mins to
get Beryl working across dual monitors !!!
