I've had so much trouble with grub and lilo. Everytime
I try again, and have to troubleshoot, the release used
was so different from the previous one, that none of
my hard acquired troubleshooting skills were of value.

So, this appears to be a case where grub installed most
of itself on a Windows partition???

The below questions are just grumblings, best ignored
as I can do my own homework, rtfm.

And the proper solution before deleting the Windows partitions
would be to copy the /boot folder from there to a non windows
partition, and tell grub the new location, via one of it's
commands? Will it copy itself to a new partition and set that
up? Can you hand edit this, that is the grub pointer to the
/boot partition?

Can not one install grub on it's own partition? So, it is not
dependent on an OS partition?
