[Lula] Linux Kernel Guru Needed

I'm entirely self-taught in Linux. I've focused most of my attention
on server-level stuff -- Apache, BIND & DNS, etc. That seemed to be
where the action was in Linux.

Only problem is, now I'm working at a company making a Linux-based
appliance, and suddenly desktop and GUI and consumer hardware support
and etc. are important, and my skills have some gaps.

We've found it to be a nightmare to test and integrate new hardware
peripherals (Wifi cards, new mobos, etc.) I can usually get things
working but it takes me longer than it should (with lots of trial and
error). I'd like to increase my knowledge so there's less trial (and
less error) when I'm setting up this hardware stuff.

Our appliances run a modified (stripped-down) version of Ubuntu Linux
6.06. (Dapper, Long-Term Support).

I'm working through "The Debian System," by Martin Kraft, "The Linux
Programmer's Toolbox," "Linux Kernel in a nutshell," and
"Understanding the Linux Kernel." Or at least, that's the current
reading plan.

I'm looking for suggestions for books, websites, etc. to learn more
about getting oddball hardware to work under Linux.

And if you've got a lot of experience MAKING oddball hardware work
under Linux, I'd very much like to talk with you -- either buy you
lunch and pick your brain, or have an actual paid consulting gig where
you tutor me.

John
