[Lula] How does one access Siemens 4100 DSL modem through a router.

The Siemens Speedstream 4100 router has a IP address of 192.168.0.1. My
router's IP address presented to the LAN is also 192.168.0.1.

I have been able to get the modem, router, and computer working together by
plugging the computer directly into the modem, connecting to the ISP, next
disconnecting the computer from the modem (leaving the modem powered up and
connected to the ISP) and then plugging the computer into the router and the
router into the modem. (Think the order in which I do the replugging, and
just when I power up the modem may be important, but I don't know for sure).

With other modem/router combinations I have been able to log into the modem
through the router, but in those instances the modem had (I believe it was) a
172 XXX XXX XXX address, so the transmission didn't get terminated at the
router.

I had thought the two "faces" of the router woud be on different segments.
That is to say that the addresses of the computers and the address presented
to the computers by the router would all be in one segment, that is would
have an address of the form 192.XXX.XXX.XXX, but address segment shared by
the router and the DSL would have to be different. Apparently not, since
this works, but it is strange to change the device talking to the modem after
it has established communication with the ISP and with the computer.

This isn't exactly a Linux question, and I apologize for that, but I would
certainly appreciate help in understanding this.
